Challenges for testers in Robotic Process Automation

Session type: 45 min talk

Session level: Intermediate

Imagine you need to test robots. How will you assure that the test is independent, but not focused on too many details? Will you do this automatically or manually? Should we even bother to test the automated business process? How to work with programmers in order to assure high quality of development and reporting? How will you verify that a process is well-defined and correctly implemented?

During my presentation I would like to answer those questions, as well as raise some new ones, to leave a room for discussion. The lecture will be held based on the Robotic Process Automation Framework for back-office business processes and personal experience.

I cover Robotic Process Automation issues from a testing perspective, above all the way things gets automated and the role of testing inside this process. I will show tools and reporting methods we use, presenting the developers, testers and end-users ways of verification of the final product. Moreover, I will discuss the analysis of a process as a way to assure confluence with business requirements and needs.

Key take-aways:

Participant will

  • Get to know what a Robotic Process Automation is
  • Be familiarized with the way the automated solutions can be tested
  • Come up with new ideas how to make robotics testing as good as possible, as minimal as required
